HTTPS SSL And Google Ranking 2017 mrwhackahost

ssl ranking factors 2017I don’t want to re-invent the wheel here, but we have all heard that have SSL… you know when your site is https and you have that cool PadLock in your URL is  a must for having better trust and ranking with Google right?

Well below I am going to link out to a handful of great articles that go way, way, way more into detail about this than I care to, so be sure to check them out.

Simple answer: Yes SSL will help your rankings with Google and give your site more trust, but just because you have SSL does not mean you are going to rank better, it just means you have another check in the box that Google wants to see!

Here Are Some Of My Results & Tips If You Are Implementing HTTPS

  • You might see traffic go down for a week or so after you implement it…. I’d say the majority of my sites I did this to saw a dip in traffic, but it would pick back up.
    • That also depends on a few things!
      • Did you make sure all your pages are redirecting to HTTPS? You better
      • Did you update settings in Google Webmaster tools & analytics to let them know your site is HTTPS now? You better
      • Be sure to update any links to your sites that you have on social media platforms and other places you can edit them to https

In the end having SSL is better because now all the browsers are starting to warn visitors anywhere they can enter info that the site is not safe.

So you might scare off people that are wanting to optin to an offer, but get scared off because the browser is warning them it is insecure. Which will all know does not matter for a silly optin, but that is the deal!

Don’t Have SSL & Want To Install One? Here Is How:

This is for a wordpress installation and using Let’s Encrypt which is FREE SSL. No need to pay for SSL ever again!

I did a post here that shows you how to install FREE SSL using the cpanel let’s encrypt plugin <<< go check it out and let me know how it goes.

Would love to hear any input you have with switching over to SSL.

Here are those resources I mentioned at the beginning.
